Astrium : three contracts to improve Ariane

Astrium has received from ESA three contracts totaling 414 million euros to ensure “the next phase development of the launch vehicle Ariane 5 Midlife Evolution (ME) and of its sub-assemblies shared with the launch vehicle Ariane 6”, and also preliminary studies of Ariane 6 according to the company’s senior management. Ariane 6 and Ariane 5 ME will be sharing the propulsion of the upper stage with the re-ignitable Vinci (Safran) engine that enables to launch successively several satellites and most parts of its payload fairing.
